Multiplication of Sento culture.
Nowadays if anything is successful there is a multiplication behind the successes.

What was traditionally considered old fashioned and shabby local stuff is now beginning to stand in a spotlight applying this multiplication equation.
In Japan, things like "Sento", public bathhouses were once considered old and something for older people, never fashionable, cool or hip. Until recently Sento used to be a relic from the days when there were no baths built in houses in the past, especially for housing with people of lower income (majority of people back then were), they used to go to Sento. For a long time the culture has been considered very attached to its local areas, mainly used something for the people living in neighborhood, downtown.
But there is a new movement.
Why not use such relaxing and fine facilities, not just for hygienic purposes but for connecting the society, not only for the neighborhood but for anyone enjoys the culture of Sento bathing.
By the way many Sentos have a very unique architectural structure as a building.
Use of abundant hot and cold water in the house, the steam, the washing detergents, the drainage treatment, any of these issues could damage the building. Many particular conditions to meet the requirement.
I have always been interested in the topic and recently took up this book "Sento Zukai" explaining the design of the Sento structure inside. Very fascinating. (Also visit the author's instagram!)
Not just the architecture part how efficiently built they are to last for generations but also things like the variety of art paintings drawn on walls inside to amuse the bathers, and well designed flow of bathers' journey starting from undressing to actually taking the bath and returning to get dressed are all so intriguing.
Some people thought those Sentos could be epicenters and gathering points to connect people by holding events, concerts, putting out messages of the local information, and promoting of the culture of public bathing.
With these movement the use of Sento, what was traditionally a place for users of older generations, is now spreading to much younger enthusiasts.
The whole thing has evolved to becoming places of social inclusive diversity, relaxing place for everyone, a hot spring paradise in the city most.
Such multiplication grows strong reaching to areas never before considered could be connected, and I think there are still many other areas of traditional culture left that this equation could be applied.
