TONYUSHA
2022. 6. 24.
A very distinctive old-fashioned appearance in the midst of Tokyo's most famous finance district is Tonyusha, originally built as a milk hall and milk sales outlet in 1889, Meiji era. The above current building was rebuilt in 1933, surviving the previous war.
It continued to operate as a cafe/restaurant throughout the war and post-war years and to this day, and is enjoyed by locals for a quick eat-out.
Notice the 'peach' relief at the top of the building.
Name of the cafe "Tonyusha" means: 'To' - peach, 'nyu' - milk and 'sha' - building/shop.
Hence, the peach.
Another witness to the changes of the times in Tokyo.
